James Nyiha

Senior Partner


James Nyiha is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya admitted to the bar in 1993. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi with a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law. He is the Senior Partner in Nyiha, Mukoma & Co. Advocates.

He has attended and completed the Advanced Management Program (Strathmore Business School, 2009), The Master Negotiator Programme (Strathmore Business School, 2010), the Executive Negotiation Programme: Bargaining for Advantage, (the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, 2011), the Oxford Negotiation Programme (Said Business School, University of Oxford, 2013), Mediation Training Programme (Strathmore Law School, 2014), Certified Leadership Coach Programme (Coach Development Institute of Africa, 2015) and Leadership in Law Firms (Harvard Law School, 2015). He is currently pursuing a Masters in Applied Philosophy and Ethics at Strathmore University.

James has special expertise in alternative dispute resolution, creation of securities and their realization. He is also involved in mergers and acquisitions, amalgamation and winding up of companies, loan recovery and drafting of commercial and conveyancing documents. He regularly handles commercial litigation cases, arbitration and mediation in construction disputes.

On a part time basis, he serves as adjunct Faculty in Strathmore Business School where he teaches “the Art of Negotiation” and “the Art of Persuasion”.

James is the Chief Prosecutor for the Law Society of Kenya at the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal.

Catherine Nyiha

Partner


Catherine Nyiha is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya admitted to the bar in 1993. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi with a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law.

She joined Nyiha, Mukoma and Co. Advocates as a partner after working for 18 years (1993-2012) as a State Counsel in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, where she specialized in Compliance and Regulation, ensuring that companies, partnerships, hire purchase businesses, books and newspapers, sports bodies, religious organisations, welfare associations, private members’ clubs, and political parties in the Republic of Kenya complied with their parent statutes. She also mediated when disputes arose among the members of the said bodies.

She headed the Official Receiver Section in the Attorney-General’s office (2004-2012).

She has attended and completed the Programme for Management Development (Strathmore Business School, 2010), attended and completed the Government of Kenya Senior Leadership Development Programme (Kenya Institute of Administration, 2011), and attended and completed the Women in Leadership Programme (Strathmore Business School, 2013). She is currently pursuing a Masters in Law in International Business Law.

Catherine has special expertise in Regulation and Compliance, Mediation and International Business Law.

Peter Kwenjera

Partner


Peter Kwenjera holds a PhD in law from the University of Navarre. He also holds a Masters in Governance and Culture of Organizations from the same university and is a Graduate of Law (LL.B, Upper Second Class) from the University of Nairobi.

He is qualified as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA K). Peter teaches Business Ethics at Strathmore Law School.

Peter joined Nyiha, Mukoma & Co. Advocates beginning 2003. He specializes in commercial and corporate law.

Grace Wangui

Partner


Grace Wangui W. Koech is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya admitted to the bar in 2008. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi with a Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is a Partner at Nyiha, Mukoma & Company Advocates.

Grace has attended the Professional Management Program (Strathmore Business School, 2017) and The Leading Edge Manager (TLEM) Program (Anderson Human Capital, 2016).

Grace heads the Litigation Department and is also currently the Partner in charge of Management, Development, Training and Continuous Legal Education of the office personnel.

Her areas of specialization include Environmental and Land matters, Civil & Commercial litigation, Succession and Probate claims, Labour, Employment and Immigration matters.

Grace is also well versed with Conveyancing Practice, Intellectual Property and maintains a keen interest in Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms.

Dorine Nakato

Senior Associate


Doreen Nakato is an advocate in waiting. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Uganda Christian University, Mukono with a post graduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is an Associate in Nyiha, Mukoma & Co. Advocates.

She joined the firm in January 2016 as a pupil and she has been exposed to various areas of the law such as; conveyancing, commercial and civil litigation and well as conducting client interviews.

Brenda Mathenge

Senior Associate


Brenda Mathenge Olembo is an associate with Nyiha, Mukoma & Company Advocates. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and was admitted to the Bar in January, 2016. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from the Catholic University of East Africa and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and is currently a Certified Secretaries (CS) course finalist with the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya.

She joined Nyiha, Mukoma & Company Advocates in January, 2015 for pupillage prior to her admission to the Kenyan bar in January, 2016 where she was exposed to various facets commercial law and commercial litigation law and practice.

Her main areas of focus are commercial law, civil litigation, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Her experience also includes advising clients on contractual, commercial, land, environmental and employment disputes.

Eric Wagura

Associate


Eric Wagura Gichaga is a Legal Trainee at Nyiha Mukoma & Company Advocates having joined the firm in August 2018. He has specialist skills in Legal research and drafting.

Before joining Nyiha Mukoma and Company Advocates, Eric worked at the Strathmore Tax Research and Consultancy centre as a Tax Research Analyst. He has varied interests in commercial law and practice, transactional conveyancing and financial services law.

Eric holds a Bachelors of Law (LL.B) degree from Strathmore Law School.

Magdalene Njueini

Associate


Magdalene Gathoni Njueini is a Legal Trainee at Nyiha Mukoma & Company Advocates. She has critical skills in Legal drafting and research.

Before joining Nyiha Mukoma and Company Advocates, Magdalene was involved in various research engagements for her former lectures and professors. Magdalene has interests in family law, succession and estate planning and employment law.

Magdalene holds a Bachelors of Law degree from the University of Nairobi.

Ivy Mabelle

Associate


Ivy Wambui Mabelle is a Legal Trainee at Nyiha Mukoma & Company Advocates having joined the firm in September 2019. She possesses critical Legal Writing and Research skills.

Before joining Nyiha Mukoma and Company Advocates, she worked at Marval O’Farrell & Mairal an Argentine Law firm in Buenos Aires where she was involved in tax advisory. She has also worked extensively on various research projects for her former Professors. Ivy has also been involved in case research assignments by various law firms in Nairobi. She has interests in commercial law and practice, family law, and gender and the law issues.

Ivy holds a Bachelors of Law (LL.B) degree from Strathmore Law School.
